How to Keep Yourself Motivated - For Runnerr

Staying motivated
There are hundreds of reasons to run, and, equally, hundreds of excuses to miss a training session. If you are tempted to miss a run, just remember the following points to stay motivated, and running will soon become a regular part of your life or if you are running \'correctly\'. It\'s unlikely that you are being watched, but if you are worried you should find an environment where other people are running or exercising, such as a park or the gym, and you will feel less conspicuous. It won\'t be long before running gives you the confidence to run where you like and when you like.
Striking a deal
There will be times when you really don\'t feel like running, but instead of missing your run altogether make a deal with yourself that you will go out for just 10 minutes. The chances are that once you are out there and into your stride, you will want to carry on past the 10-minute mark.
Sweet dreams
You will sleep better if you follow a regular running programme, which is great news if you are one of the thousands of adults in the UK who are currently sleep-deprived. Sleep deprivation has been linked to depression, poor concentration and even to obesity. Run well and sleep well and you will be a happier and more focused person.
Entering a race
If your running needs a focus, you could sign up for a race. Once you\'re committed to running a certain distance, on a certain date, you will have a compelling reason to stick with the training and not to give up.
Take small steps
Don\'t compare yourself to other runners when you are starting out. It does not matter whether you are fast or slow, whether you can run a mile or a marathon, or whether you come first or last in a race. What matters is that you\'re taking your first running steps. Celebrate your achievements, enjoy the fresh air and surround yourself with people who will support your new passion and might even share some of the running with you. Whether you run with your partner, kids, friends, colleagues, club mates or even the dog, you\'re less likely to skip a run if you know that you will be sharing the miles.
Money matters
Involving a charity in your new passion will raise your commitment to your training. Once you know that you\'re chosen charity - and your sponsors - is counting on you, you are less likely to miss a run. As further motivation, you could bet a friend that you can stick to your schedule or reach a particular goal: research suggests that you\'re more likely to hit a target if there\'s money riding on it.
Setting realistic goals
If your goal is so tough that achieving it might take you years, you will soon lose interest. Try instead to set yourself short-term incremental goals. For instance, you might give yourself two months to lose 3kg (71b), say, or plan to run your first 10K. Keep your training interesting by varying your routes, your training partners, and the pace at which you run.
You\'ll feel good
You might have heard some people talking about a \'runner\'s high\' that they experience after a workout. It is easy to become addicted to that feeling of satisfaction when you have just completed a tough session. If your motivation is suffering, just remind yourself how great you\'ll feel after the run.
You\'ll save time
Feeling that you are much too busy to fit in a run can really dampen your motivation, so next time that you have too many demands on your time, why not just remind yourself that running is one of the most time-efficient ways in which you can exercise. After all, you can do it anywhere at any time without having to get in the car and drive to the gym or head for a football pitch. Just pull on your running shoes and head out of the door for an instant workout.
Check out the competition
Running will provide you with endless opportunities to flaunt your competitive streak. You might not even realize you had one until you step across the start line of your first race and begin to plan how you will complete the distance in the quickest time possible. Whether you are racing against the clock, friends or other runners, a little healthy competition is a great way to stay motivated.
